Rules Survey Posted!

In preparation for next week’s End of Book Party on Wednesday, May 16th at 3:30pm at the Downtown Library, we’ve posted a survey for Rules which can be found here. http://www.orlandocares.net/bookclub/survey.html Fun prizes will be given to 2 random participants so take the survey today!

You Can’t Always Judge a Book By its Cover…

But what about this title?
We know that many of you are just now starting to read or may still be looking for your copy of Rules, by Cynthia Lord.

Ponder this:

  • What do you think the book will be about, based on the cover? What about the title?
  • When you hear the word “rules”, how do you feel and what comes to mind?
  • Think of some rules for your own life. What rules do your parents have for you? Do your teachers have rules in class?
  • Are rules necessary in some situations? When are rules a good thing? When can rules be a negative thing?
  • Do you have rules for yourself? Your brothers or sisters?

Special Author Visit at our Next Event!

Author of Rules, Cynthia Lord. We have some exciting news to share about Mayor Buddy’s Book Club’s next event. We will have the author of Rules, Cynthia Lord joining us!

To make this happen we have had to change the previously scheduled date of Mayor Buddy’s Book Club event. It will now be held one week later. Don’t miss it!

Rules Reading Schedule

Our newest book is about Catherine and her brother David during summer break. Like all twelve-year-olds she just wants to have a normal life but it’s hard to feel normal when you have a brother with autism. She usually handles it pretty well by coming up with rules to keep David from embarrassing her, but this summer is different…

Reading Schedule:

Week 1 (by 3/24) Rules for David
Read through page 28
Week 2 (by 3/31) If it’s too loud, cover your ears or ask the other person to be quiet
Read pages 29 – 58
Week 3 (by 4/7) Sometimes things work out, but don’t count on it
Read pages 59 – 88
Week 4 (by 4/14) At someone else’s house, you have to follow their rules
Read pages 89 – 112
Week 5 (by 4/21) Open closet doors carefully, sometimes things fall out
Read pages 113 – 144
Week 6 (by 4/28) Solving one problem can create another
Read pages 145 – 166
Week 7 (by 5/5) Pantless brothers are not my problem

Rules by Cynthia Lord is Our Next Book!

Yesterday at Mayor Buddy’s Book Club Celebration for Nothing But the Truth, we created mad libs using the Star Spangled Banner, had red, white and blue cup cakes, and created patriotic bookmarks.

It was also announced that Mayor Buddy’s next book club title will be Rules by Cynthia Lord! Everyone that attended the book celebration received a free copy! If you couldn’t make it, you can still get a copy of Rules from the library! Just click request to have it delivered to your home!

BTW the book club now has over 1,100 members!

Nothing But The Truth by Avi – Reading Schedule

If you didn’t receive a free copy at our last End of Book party, you can still borrow a copy for free from the Orange County Library System or purchase one at your local bookseller.
